I'm linking up with Kelly's Korner again this week for another home tour. Before I start with the pictures, let me just say that I love love love looking at other people's nurseries and playrooms. I get way more excited planning G's future playroom or big boy room than planning my own wedding.
I recently stumbled upon this awesome blog that has really nursery inspiration ideas, and of course, you can always find cute things on projectnursery.com, pinterest and etsy.
Anyway, once we found out we were having a boy, I knew I wanted his nursery to be safari themed. My inspiration came from our mutual love for Africa. I had just traveled to Cape Town helping an orphanage when I found out we were pregnant. R was actually in Africa for a two month trip when I called him with the news. If you haven't been to Africa, you should definitely put it on your bucket list. It is hard to describe in words, but trust me, it's amazing.
I wanted to do something fun, but not too cutesy or too busy. I wanted warm, rich colors and a room G could grow up in for many years before having to change it again. Little did I know we would put our house on the market in just two short years. ;)
**I will list all of the sellers of specific items at the end of my post.**
I spent many hours perusing the web looking for ideas. I found these awesome decals online, but they were too big for the room.
I looked up local artists and found one who seemed like the perfect fit. Lo and behold, she was and her painting is my absolute favorite part of his room. I will miss it so much when we move out, but R's already promised me that she can come out to the new house.
She did everything by hand -- traced it on the walls the first day and painted the second. It really makes his room unique and was just what I had in mind.
We used another local artist to commission the canvas above his crib. She had done something very similar as a wall mural in someone else's home, but we decided to go with a framed canvas that we could move around if need be. In hindsight, thank goodness we won't have to leave both behind! Mt. Kilimanjaro holds a special place in R's heart, so that is the mountain that you see in the background.
The crib bedding was probably the first big ticket purchase that I did for his room. I found the seller on etsy and was very pleased with her work. She made the bumpers, crib skirt (not pictured), changing pad cover (not pictured), and blanket.
R's mom, aunt, and grandma gifted us with the furniture and glider. We are very lucky and G is very spoiled. ;)
Everything else came together, little by little. I am really pleased with how it turned out and already have ideas bookmarked and tucked away for his big boy room when that time should come! I know it won't be too long from now.
