Lost in translation

Unlike me, R is not bilingual.  I taught bilingual first grade for five years and am fluent in español.  R is pretty much like Peggy Hill, but maybe not quite as bad.  ;)

A few weeks ago, I walked into the room, R looked up at me with a grin, and the following conversation ensued...

R: Su es muy fea.
Me: Ummm what?!?  Ugh!  That is so rude!
R (shocked/concerned look on his face): What????
Me: You just said I was really ugly (and he didn't even say it correctly at that!)!!!!
R (mouth drops open): ..... I meant to say that you were really beautiful!
Me: Well that is bella not fea!  Go work on your Spanish!

Haha, I had to laugh about it because it was a classic R Spanish blunder.  Once upon a time he bought the Rosetta Stone cd set ... I think he needs to dust those off and brush up on his español!
