We have all been there. A weekend brimming full of endless possibilities, or even a weekend full of the best made plans. That is, until something goes wrong. That's what this weekend looked like on Friday... until yesterday morning.
G and I slept in until ten o'clock yesterday morning. It was freaking glorious, but also somewhat suspicious since G never does that. He actually woke up once and then went back to sleep. It was a little concerning when we had to get him up at 10:15, but he immediately wanted to watch a show so all seemed okay.
We were supposed to meet my family at a state park about an hour and a half away. They had camped out the night before, but we had decided to only go out for the day and had agreed to bring sandwich goods/chips/cookies for lunch.
My concern about G grew as he stayed quiet the entire car ride and refused his breakfast and gummy vitamins (red flag!). About five minutes from our destination, I turned around and could tell something wasn't quite right. R quickly pulled over so we could get G out of his car seat and outside to throw up. Poor baby.
He perked up after that, so we chalked it up to something irritating his tummy and went along our merry way (while keeping a close eye on him). We hiked, we ate, we napped... and then it went downhill again. G wanted to be held and was lethargic and now running a fever. After a quick dinner, we said our goodbyes and headed back home. As soon as we pulled in the driveway, I could tell something wasn't quite right again. I stayed outside on the porch holding G while R unloaded and sure enough... puke fest number two.
After a quick shower and fresh jammies, we got into bed and G fell fast asleep. He woke up throughout the night wanting water (and more water) and has been a pitiful, feverish lump on the couch all day today.
****
I am thankful that this is not our "norm." I am thankful to have a supportive partner that shares the load. I am thankful to have a job where I can take off without feeling guilty.
*Hoping for a better day tomorrow!*
