Finally Fall?

Yesterday it only got up to 90º -- I know.  It was soooo beautiful outside to not love it except for that fact that the nice breeze was/is causing wildfires all over the state, many of them close (but not too close, thankfully) to home.  It is really scary and heartbreaking to know that hundreds of people are losing their homes, pets, everything to fires.  And yes, while "stuff is just stuff," it is still devastating.  So while we embraced the beautiful fall-ish weather, I also felt guilty for loving it so much.  Several families we know live in a neighborhood that had to be completely evacuated because of fires from overhead power lines.  Many homes have been destroyed and many others damaged but the incredible firefighters have saved hundreds of others from the flames.  Luckily their homes are all safe.

Is it crazy to think that fall is finally here since it is not 100º outside?  If it's one record I'm not excited about breaking, it's the fact that we have officially broken the most 100º+ days in one year.  Yippee.

All that means is that

  1. you immediately start sweating the second you step outside.
  2. you crank the AC on its lowest setting in the car full blast for at LEAST five minutes before you're willing to strap your baby inside.
  3. you are stuck indoors for the majority of the day because anything outside is too miserable.
The conscientious (p.s. that is a really hard word to spell!) citizens that we are, we decided to completely stop watering our lawn to help out with the water shortage and required watering restrictions.  The results?

Our very own wasteland.  Try not to be too jealous.

Ha - in all honesty, the sprinkler system stopped working a long time ago and the next house project on the list is to entirely re-do both the front and back yards.  Hence the lack of watering (except for the poor trees).

I brought out all of G's long-sleeved/fall clothing last week in attempts to will fall to get here asap.  My reasons for wanting fall?

  • to take stroller walks outside at any time of day
  • to go play at the park and not worry about how hot the playground equipment will be on your baby's skin
  • camping!  ... nothing like snuggling in a tent surrounded by nature
  • football season!  I know I seem like such a dude for saying this, but I love me some college football!  Hook 'em, baby!
  • my fall wardrobe and dressing G in his :)
Come on fall ... and more importantly ... come on rain!

p.s. Is it sad that I consider it getting closer to fall if the temperature is in the low 90's?  Probably so.
