Life lately

We are here, recovering from our family filled, relaxing long weekend.  R's mom and stepdad came down from Kansas City, and while their visit was too short, it was a nice break from our "normal" routine.

Ever since I texted pictures to his mom from our first outing to the zoo, she has been hinting about taking G there on her next trip.  I googled "exotic safari" to find something nearby that would be different and perhaps fit the bill of her petting zoo request.

I found one a little over an hour away and it proved well worth the drive.  They have 500 animals including over 80 different species in a natural type habitat of over 137 acres.  We took their guided tour and bought the highly recommended bucket o' feed.  Those animals definitely knew there was food to be had because as soon as they heard the truck, they came a-running.

Yesterday we basked in the realization that we had a whole Monday to spend with R and enjoyed it poolside with friends.  G loved swimming with their two big dogs and petting their two cats.  While it was certainly nice to have a lazy three day weekend, it was important to note why R didn't have to work on Monday.

I read this story on cnn.com and got chills.  While I personally may not favor war, I am so thankful for all of the men and women who selflessly defend our nation and die to protect our freedoms.

I also realized after this weekend that I really do need to take more pictures.  Period.  I didn't get any of G with his grandparents and failed to document Memorial Day 2012.  Life will go on, but I am disappointed and have promised myself to do better.  I want to capture all of these little moments as best I can.  I've started reading an online tutorial on how to take better pictures with your digital pictures.  I'll let you know how it works out!

It has been a slow week of zero showings, but our house is still on the market.  We have reduced it as low as we are willing to go and will sit here and patiently wait for a little while longer.  It is definitely not easy to maintain a spotless, tidy house with a busy, busy boy who likes to make messes.

At least I've convinced R we need to invest in a dust buster type vacuum.  :)  We supposedly have the best vacuum there is, but it is not the most convenient to use if you just want to do a quick clean up of crumbs, etc. from a certain someone.

I've been lax on my dieting and working out and am ready to get back on board.  It's a pain that eating right is 80% of it, but I guess that is a small sacrifice to looking good, and more importantly, staying healthy.  I wish I could eat whatever I wanted and exercise at leisure to attain the body that I want, but it's just not possible.  So, beast mode it is.

We signed up for a gym membership at this place right down the street since our garage gym is temporarily full of tubs and furniture while we try to sell the house.  The gym even has swimming lessons, so I signed up G for the parent and child classes.  Time to get this body ready for bikinis and the beach!
